There's a lot more to Loring Heights than first meets the eye. A small, cozy neighborhood nestled among the rolling hills of Atlanta, Loring Heights is a diversely mixed neighborhood of lifestyles, attitudes, and ambitions and where everyone is made to feel welcome. It’s a place where a friendly wave is the norm, not the exception.
The neighborhood’s development began in the 1940’s. Originally, the majority of the residents were employees of the Atlantic Steel plant or the railroad. Loring Heights homes were constructed as more modest, one-story brick cottages on lots about a quarter acre in size. However, World War II interrupted further development. The Atlantic Steel plant has been deserted and is being transformed into the Atlantic Station complex, making the area which was formerly known as a working-class neighborhood is becoming more desirable and more expensive due to that development.
Loring Heights is located just north of Atlantic Station and south of Buckhead, about a half mile west of Peachtree. With Northside Drive and I-75 nearby, it is convenient to all the major highways and expressways into and out of Downtown Atlanta which is a big plus for those who work or must travel outside the city. With over 300 homes in the neighborhood, prospective buyers will find that the Loring Heights homes for sale now range from traditional to contemporary and everything in between.
Loring Heights is a strategically located neighborhood that has developed its own community as systematically and efficiently as the adjacent neighborhood Atlantic Station has redeveloped the former Atlantic Steel mill. In fact, the leadership of Loring Heights was instrumental in developing zoning conditions that shaped the redevelopment’s master plan which also led to the organization of all the neighborhoods in the northwest part of Atlanta.
The neighborhood’s residents can enjoy living just a short ride from some of Atlanta's best shopping, dining, entertainment, and many other conveniences of the Midtown, Buckhead, and Downtown business districts.
All the modern conveniences set aside, this small neighborhood is steeped in a rich history that reflects Atlanta's evolution from a country community to a thriving metropolis. The Loring Heights residents represent a diverse mix of singles and families.
There is a park in Loring Heights which is a small, only covering 1.9 acres , but beautiful green space northwest of Midtown. It is a calm, naturalistic setting with a large duck pond rimmed by porch-type swings and patio seating. A picnic area is located at one end of the park with tables and a grill. The park is a very peaceful place tucked away in the quiet neighborhood, with no playground or other amenities, it's just a wonderful green oasis in the midst of the city.
The park has an abundance of natural fern, trillium and wild geranium plants and was named as the Park of the Month by The Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs (DPRCA) for July 2005. Another green space for the neighborhood is under development on Loring Drive, and a playground as well as an off-leash dog area are included in the plans.
