The earliest history of Collier Hills is commemorated by a granite mark which marks the spot where two Creek Indian trails intersected.  Later this neighborhood in Buckhead was named for one of Atlanta’s oldest homesteads, the estate of Andrew Jackson Collier who owned a grist mill on Tanyard Creek.  The mill also served one of the earliest landmarks in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. 

The Collier Hills area has a rich Civil War history and several markers and monuments are dotted throughout its luscious landscapes as testaments to its historical significance.  Some of the heaviest fighting of the Civil War took place in July 1864 on the gently rolling hills and in the hollows along the rocky banks of Tanyard Creek when Confederate soldiers launched a desperate attack against the Union armies of General William T. Sherman for possession of Atlanta.

Today there are three lovely parks in the area and plenty of activities to enjoy:  Tanyard Creek which is located at Collier Road and Walthall Drive, Ardmore off Collier Road, and Atlanta Memorial which offers golf and tennis on the Bobby Jones Golf Course and Bitsy Grant Tennis Center located off Golfview Drive, and there are jogging and walking trails as well.

There are plenty of other activities in any direction.  Many attractions, historic sites, outdoor activities, and culture abound in this small town community while still offering amenable opportunities of the city.  The nearby Atlanta metro area offers plenty of things to do as well as world-class shopping opportunities.  On any given evening one can attend a musical from Broadway or a symphony, or any number of other performances.  There are also great annual events such as the Georgia Renaissance Festival, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival, and the Atlanta Jazz Festival. 

With the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport nearby and Amtrak services which stops at Brookwood Station, there is easy access in and out of the area for visiting guests.
